Training > Basic Life Support Courses
As the title suggests, this course is designed for the layperson. It is more likely that in the rural setting or small close-knit village or community, the person one would deal with would indeed be either a family member or a neighbour who is at risk from sudden cardiac death. Certainly one would be dealing with a person known to them. The course covers basic CPR and how to deal with sudden cardiac arrest and how to recognise the signs & symptoms of a heart attack or stroke. It also teaches you how to deal with choking in adults, children and infants and how to prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
The course is designed to be tailored to suit whatever age level you wish to deal with, for instance it can be just for adults, or infants and children, or for all ages. The automated external defibrillator (AED) is not covered in this course. The duration of the course is approximately 4 hours depending on what level you wish to do but unlike other courses this does not carry certification.
